Participation waiver

What every dancer agrees to before their first class, in plain English.

Everyone who dances with us agrees to this before their first class. It's short on purpose, and it's written the way we'd explain it to you in person.

What you're acknowledging

Garba is physical. You'll be moving continuously, turning, clapping, and dancing in a circle with other people — sometimes with dandiya sticks. Like any physical activity, it carries a risk of injury: a rolled ankle, a knock from a neighbour's stick, a strain from a turn your body wasn't warmed up for.

By joining a class or event, you're confirming that:

  • You're physically able to take part, or you've checked with a doctor if you weren't sure.
  • You'll dance within your own limits and stop if something hurts.
  • You'll tell the instructor about an injury, condition, or pregnancy that affects how you should move.
  • You're taking part voluntarily, and you accept the ordinary risks that come with dancing.

What we're responsible for

We run the room properly. That means a warm-up before anything strenuous, clear instruction before dandiya work, spacing that accounts for how many people are dancing, and an instructor who stops the class if the floor or the space isn't safe.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Garba Groove and its instructors aren't liable for injury, loss, or damage to property arising from your participation — except where it's caused by our own negligence, which nothing here limits.

Under 18

Dancers under 18 need a parent or guardian to agree to this waiver on their behalf. For dancers under 14, we ask that a parent or guardian stays for the class.

Photos and video

We sometimes photograph or film classes and events for our own website and social channels. If you'd rather not appear, tell an instructor before class or email [email protected] — we'll keep you out of frame and remove anything already published on request.

Your belongings

Bring what you need and keep an eye on it. We can't take responsibility for personal items left in a venue.

The rest of the terms

Bookings, payments, refunds, and class credits are covered in our terms of service. How we handle your data is in our privacy policy. How we run a room safely is in our class safety page.
